Hello forum,

I have a clogged drain that I cannot clear myself. It is a type of drain I am not familiar with. I was unable to remove the "plug" in the center. Is it possible to take it out, and if so, how?

I tried some plunging, but it didn’t help.

Can anyone guide me on how to clean this drain?
Empty round hole in the wall with metal ring, probably a former light or pipe opening.

Open bathroom drain: round metal cover lying next to the hole in the tiled floor.

Open wall opening with round metal part, dark interior, dirty seal.

To me, this looks like an extra-flat drain with a trap. If that is the case, the cap in the middle must be removable. Whether it is screwed, clicked, or plugged in, I cannot say.

As a home remedy to clear drain blockages, baking powder or baking soda combined with vinegar has proven effective. It fizzes strongly and dissolves quite a lot. Rinse with water afterwards to neutralize.

I have already tried the baking soda and vinegar treatment. Now I need to see how I can clear the trap. It is quite possible that it is an extra-shallow drain. This is the shower of a wet room – a unit where the walls and shower tray are made as one piece of plastic.

My tip for this kind of issue is to let 1 liter (1 quart) of fresh cola (from a sealed bottle) sit on it for several hours. Then rinse off with hot water.

I pour a few liters of boiling water with a large amount of dishwasher detergent dissolved in it into such drains ... and then, of course, let it sit for a while.

Maybe you could also try using a very small mini bottle brush (I can’t think of the exact term). These are flexible and bendable, so you might be able to loosen hair and other debris with it.
