Hello everyone,

I have an issue with the doors of my Ikea KALLAX unit hitting the floor when closing. The noise is quite loud, and I’m concerned it might cause long-term damage to the material or the doors. The unit is standing directly on the floor and is assembled correctly and level.

My question is: How can I adjust or raise the doors on the KALLAX so they no longer hit the floor, without having to disassemble the unit or make major modifications? Are there any proven methods, for example adjusting the hinges, adding pads, or other solutions? I would prefer to keep it simple and avoid using special tools.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

You can try adjusting the hinges. In KALLAX units, these are usually concealed hinges that can be height-adjusted using a small screwdriver. If that is not enough, you could attach small felt pads or door buffers under the doors.

Hello,

I can only agree with Roberta and would like to add the following: KALLAX doors usually have three adjustment screws on the hinge (vertical, horizontal, and depth). The vertical adjustment in particular helps to fine-tune the height of the door so it no longer hits the floor.

If the adjustment is not enough, the doors might be warped or the floor uneven. In this case, placing small wedges or felt-covered wooden blocks under the cabinet can help to level the base.

One more tip: a soft door stopper or self-adhesive protective pads on the bottom of the door effectively cushion the impact and prevent scratches.

The causes for KALLAX doors hitting the floor are usually either incorrect hinge adjustment or uneven positioning of the base unit.

First, it is essential to carefully check the level alignment of the carcass. A spirit level on the top and bottom of the unit is recommended for this. The unit may need to be adjusted on the floor using small shims (rubber pads, furniture wedges) to prevent wobbling.

The hinges on the KALLAX doors have height adjustment options that can be adjusted using a Phillips screwdriver. This allows the door to be slightly lifted, preventing it from hitting the floor.

If the edges of the doors make direct contact with the floor, thin felt pads can be attached to the bottom edge of the door to reduce impact.

A combination of leveling the carcass and hinge adjustment is usually the best solution.

Thanks for the tip! Do you happen to know exactly where on the KALLAX hinges the height adjustment is made? Are there screws on the side or on the front edge? And are these adjusted from the outside, or do you have to remove the door?

The floor is quite level, and the unit is standing on laminate flooring. The unit itself doesn’t seem warped. The hinges are installed, but the doors are sticking firmly along the bottom edge, as if they’re hanging a bit too low.

For precise adjustment of the doors on the KALLAX: The standard hinges are usually these recessed cup hinges with three adjustment screws – one screw adjusts the height (vertical), the second adjusts the distance to the frame (horizontal), and the third adjusts the closing tension (depth).

The vertical adjustment is usually done with a screw located on the side of the hinge, on the carcass side. This screw can be turned with a Phillips screwdriver to slightly raise or lower the door. This can be done without removing the door, as the screw is accessible with the door open.

If the door is hitting, adjust the height until the correct clearance from the floor is achieved. It is also recommended to use felt pads or transparent door buffers on the inside of the door to prevent direct impact and reduce wear.
