Sektionschef19 Jul 2016 07:31Hello
My Method kitchen is now over a year old, and the following problem has appeared:
In a tall cabinet, there is a lower section with an 80cm (31.5 inches) hinged door equipped with two 153-degree Utrusta soft-close hinges.
When I try to close the door by a normal push, it now stops about 5cm (2 inches) short of closing fully.
I have already tried lubricating the hinges with WD40 oil, but it didn’t help. The door does not close completely on its own. When I remove the soft-close dampers, I notice the door moves very smoothly.
Could the problem be caused by the dampers?
I have also swapped the dampers with ones from another hinged door, but unfortunately, the result didn’t improve.
Does anyone have any advice?
Best regards

IKEA-Freund19 Jul 2016 10:39Hello,
perhaps the spring in the hinges is a bit worn out (or maybe broken in one hinge)? You could operate the door with just one damper or replace the hinges.

Sektionschef19 Jul 2016 14:07Thank you! Using only one damper results in insufficient damping effect. I haven’t noticed any warping in the door, but I will check again this evening. The hinge springs should also be fine, but I will inspect them today as well. I somehow suspect the dampers. Could it be that over time they become stiffer (due to dust or other contamination), which increases the damping effect? The dampers I used for replacement were taken from the door of another tall cabinet, which also has 153-degree hinges. This tall cabinet has a total of 5 hinges because it has a split front (80 120). Perhaps the higher damping effect on that cabinet is less noticeable due to the higher number of hinges (and thus more springs)? Best regards, Sektionschef

IKEA-Experte19 Jul 2016 14:11It is difficult to make general statements about the dampers. Their effectiveness can also decrease over time. If you have another door of the same size, try swapping them as a test.
