Hello,

We are currently in the planning phase for our single-family house with a pitched roof and have a dormer with 2 windows included in the offer for the upper floor. Unfortunately, according to the architect, this has to be removed because we decided on a knee wall height of 1.15 m (3 ft 9 in), which makes the windows too small. (With a roof pitch of 45°)

Since we find the appearance of the house a bit "bare" and there would otherwise be no windows in that space, I am wondering what alternatives exist that would not significantly impact the budget?

If you need any further information, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jens

I don’t quite understand... it’s also possible that I’m missing something. The knee wall is too high, so a dormer isn’t possible? Did the architect say why?

Yes, because the windows would become too small inside.

If I understand correctly, the roof slope is raised so high that the windows would have to be smaller in height.

We have another appointment next week. I would like to develop an understanding of why this is not possible and what affordable alternatives might be.

Oh, I see. Then the next part would be the cross-gable, right?

I understand it as roughly sketched in the picture.

But a dormer is possible! Just with smaller windows! Well, then like that – right?
