Hello everyone,

I am currently considering assembling a TV unit using the Ikea Platsa system. What I’m especially interested in: Are there any users here who actually use the Platsa shelving as a TV unit, and what experiences have you had with it?

I’m particularly interested in the following points:
- Stability and load capacity for TVs around 50 inches or larger
- Storage design options and flexibility
- Cable management solutions (concealment / accessibility)
- How you handled the overall look (color combinations, etc.)

I want to avoid compromising on storage or stability, as the TV wall will be the focal point of the living room. So I’d appreciate any experience reports with tips and advice on what to consider when using Platsa as a TV unit.

I’d be glad if you could share your opinions or experiences!

To be honest, I think the Platsa system is designed too modular-practical to meet the design standards expected of a TV unit.

I think that’s a bit too superficial. Modular systems like Platsa actually offer the freedom to tailor the furniture exactly to your own needs – rather than just accepting a pre-made design that doesn’t fit quite right.

Regarding design: You simply need to understand which combinations and colors work well together. I don’t know anyone who just places a single box somewhere – it’s clearly planned for the intended effect.

The often underestimated strength of this system is its flexible customization potential, which many other more "traditional" TV units don’t provide.

I adapted the Platsa as a TV unit and can say that at first, I was skeptical about its stability and appearance. However, the ability to design storage exactly according to my taste and needs convinced me.

What I particularly liked was that I didn’t have to stick to a traditional furniture setup, but could combine different modules. This helped me make the best use of the space while also reducing cable clutter.

It was helpful for me to measure all electronic devices and carefully plan the cable management before ordering the modules. That way, I had hardly any problems later with cables being too short or missing holes in the back panel.

Of course, the whole process takes a bit more time for planning and assembly, but the result was worth it for me. Especially for people who don’t like inflexible furniture, Platsa can be a practical alternative.

Are there any specific questions about individual details?

Thank you for your detailed feedback, pauPierce! That’s exactly the kind of response I was hoping for.

Could you maybe explain how you connected the individual modules? I’m concerned that the plug-and-screw connections might not be strong enough to ensure steady support for the TV at greater widths. Do you use any special brackets or additional screws?

Also, what about the feet or base elements—did you choose extra sturdy supports or feet? I’d like to leave some clearance underneath, for example, to run cables.

Thanks in advance for any tips!
