We have this beautiful tree in the front yard of the old apartment building. Now that we are planning to build, we would like to take some cuttings from this tree to grow and bring to the new house because we really like its flowers.

Does anyone know what kind of tree this is?
If I cut small branches from it, is there a chance they will grow if planted? Should I put them in water until they develop roots? And how and where is the best place to make the cut?

I’m a complete beginner, and when I search for instructions on Google, there are always many terms I don’t understand.
For example: “Take 10 to 15 centimeter (4 to 6 inch) long semi-ripe shoots” — I don’t know what a “shoot” is, nor how to tell if it is “semi-ripe.”

From a distance, it looks like hawthorn. How large are the flowers?

Thanks, that could be right. I looked up hawthorn, and it seems to match well.
The flowers grow in clusters like that, and a single flower isn’t very large, maybe up to 1cm (0.4 inches).

About 20 euros at Pflanzmich. I think you'll get there faster than by lowering the soil level.

We also have three. However, they only bloom after a certain age. Ours have been growing for 5 years now and are blooming for the first time.

Hello kati

Take the picture (or a pruned branch with blossoms and leaves) to a plant nursery. Ask if they can graft the tree onto rootstock. The "rootstock" is simply a young tree with its branches cut off. The 4-5 scions (branches from your desired tree) should be grafted onto it. Prices usually start from 50 euros. The method you asked about using a cutting might work, but it’s not guaranteed.

Thank you all. Maybe I’ll just buy some, as that seems to be the faster solution. I’ve now put a few thinner twigs in water (no idea if I did it correctly), figured it couldn’t hurt.
