Hello, we are currently looking for a cost-effective way to pave our driveway, which is about 30m (98 feet) plus the courtyard (total approx. 300sqm (3,230 sq ft)). Using paving stones would be too expensive since we would have to hire someone to do it.

I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with Elastopave or resin-bound gravel and can provide rough prices per sqm (sq ft)?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Yes, Elastopave was just the first product we found. We are not committed to this brand.
Currently, there is no alternative to Elastopave for driveable surfaces. The key factor is the binder, which takes the surface to a completely different level compared to a stone carpet (resin-bound gravel). The grain composition is also different. On average, you can expect prices of around 90 euros per square meter for the aromatic variant and 200 euros per square meter for the aliphatic variant.

Elastopave is not a traditional asphalt. Normally, bitumen is used as the binder in asphalt. In BASF's Elastopave product, synthetic resins are used as the binder. The advantage of this is the design flexibility regarding coloring. You cannot really color regular asphalt effectively. On the other hand, you first need to find a contractor experienced with installing this synthetic resin material. There are two factors that make it expensive: the installation and the production at the asphalt mixing plant. The mixing plant, including all equipment, must be thoroughly cleaned before it can return to producing standard asphalt. For small quantities like driveways, this can get costly. I have also seen two construction sites where the installation went poorly because the workability of the material left much to be desired.

What mistakes have you observed yourself?

Have you ever considered a water-bound gravel surface?
