Hello,
does anyone here have experience with a fair-faced concrete ceiling? If so, how did you treat the concrete? Ground and sealed? Does a painter usually do this, or more likely a plasterer?
I’m curious if anyone has experience with this.

Hello,

Your question is a bit vague:

1) What is the intended purpose of the exposed concrete ceiling in the end? Generally, you have an exposed concrete ceiling because you want to see the concrete. Grinding and treating it would usually go against that.

As a preliminary answer:
When exposed concrete is ground, the texture changes. The smooth surface is lost. If you grind it spot-wise, it often makes the overall appearance worse. If you want to treat it over the entire surface, that brings us back to question 1).

If it is supposed to be painted white instead, I would recommend not grinding but priming and then painting white. You should use a high-quality paint suitable for this application (e.g., Disbon).

If it is going to be filled or skim-coated, all of that would be the painter’s work. A plasterer would only be the right choice if you want a proper ceiling plaster (again question 1)), and this is also not easy with the manufacturer because exposed concrete has a surface that is too smooth.

Best regards,
Jann
