Hello everyone, I am planning to transport some Brimnes furniture from IKEA soon and am looking for good tips on how to do this as safely and efficiently as possible. Since the furniture consists of several parts and is relatively bulky, I am especially interested in proven packaging methods, helpful tools for carrying, and whether you have any special experience or tricks to transport the furniture without damage. Of course, I would like to avoid any scratches or damage – do you have recommendations for protecting surfaces during transport? I would also appreciate advice on whether it is worthwhile to disassemble individual components or if transporting them fully assembled is practical. Are there any special techniques for securely fastening if I use a trailer or a van? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Leosan, I understand that safe transport is very important to you. There are a few key points to consider with the BRIMNES furniture from IKEA to avoid damage. Generally, I always recommend disassembling the furniture as much as possible. This not only reduces the risk of scratches on the surfaces but also makes the parts more manageable and easier to transport.

For protection during transport, you can use furniture blankets or thick covers to prevent scratches. I have had good experiences with stretch wrap, which you wrap tightly around individual parts – this secures everything and prevents shifting during the trip.

Da die Möbel aus mehreren Teilen bestehen und doch relativ sperrig sind, interessiert mich vor allem, welche Verpackungsmethoden sich bewährt haben

Additionally, I would recommend definitely protecting the edges, for example with foam edge protectors, as the corners can easily get damaged when storing or loading.

Regarding carrying: If you have help to carry the larger parts together, there will be fewer issues than if you try to move heavy furniture pieces alone. If that’s not possible, a hand truck (dolly) can be very useful, especially for the lower shelf units.

Regarding your question about securing inside the van: use ratchet straps instead of ropes, as they provide a much more secure hold. It is important that nothing wobbles or hits against each other.

If you need more details about assembly or packing, feel free to ask!

It is best to disassemble Brimnes to make the parts more manageable. Use furniture blankets or thick blankets for protection. Use straps to secure everything in the transport vehicle. This way, you can avoid scratches and damage.

That is absolutely true; I wanted to emphasize this again because many people underestimate how much easier it makes transporting the furniture.

Sometimes I’ve also seen users remove the back panels, those thin fiberboard parts, already in the apartment so that the larger panels are less vulnerable.

Use tie-down straps to secure items in the van.

Especially important: even if the furniture parts aren’t directly visible, movement during transport can cause unseen damage. So be sure to secure everything firmly with enough straps!

I’d also add that it often helps to put all screws and small parts in a small bag before transport and label it clearly to prevent losing anything during assembly and disassembly.

Have you or others ever experienced furniture parts being damaged during transport? How did you handle it?
