Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble an IKEA Platsa wardrobe system soon with two people and am looking for good tips to make the process easier or more efficient.

I know the assembly instructions are quite detailed, but I’m wondering if you have experience on the best ways to work together to avoid mistakes and not unnecessarily prolong the process. Are there specific roles that should be assigned? How can the work be divided effectively? And maybe some tricks for handling heavier modules or securing the parts?

I would really appreciate it if you could share your experiences, proven methods, or small hacks for assembling the PLATSA system. Thanks in advance!

Hello Dimitriosd,

I completely understand that you want to prepare well for the assembly, as I also faced the challenge with the PLATSA that many parts have to be screwed and positioned individually, which can quickly become confusing.

One method I can recommend: try to sort the screws, wooden parts, and connectors according to the instructions beforehand. We did this on a large table — it provides a better overview and helps everyone stay on the same step together.

Yes, I find it very helpful when one person holds and supports the individual modules while the other screws the parts together. This prevents things from slipping. It’s also important to take breaks now and then to avoid losing patience.

For heavier modules, we always carried and assembled them together. Especially when connecting the side panels, it helps if one person screws from the outside and the other from the inside.

Do you already have a suitable workspace? I would definitely recommend having enough room so you don’t get in each other’s way.

If you like, I can share more tips that helped us.

I agree with lomin’s recommendations and would like to add the following:

- Work step by step according to the instructions and do not skip any intermediate steps. Errors often occur with PLATSA when parts are assembled too early.
- Use a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque to avoid over-tightening the screws and to protect the material.
- For larger modules, it is advisable to secure already assembled elements carefully with ratchet straps so they don’t fall apart during further assembly.

This is really fundamental – especially if you don’t assemble furniture every day.

Regarding the division of tasks: A clear process specifying who screws and who checks the fit avoids duplicated work.

I hope this helps.

Regarding the question of efficient assembly with two people using the PLATSA system, I would like to provide a structured summary:

- Preparation: Arrange all necessary parts for each assembly phase clearly. Sort screws and fittings by type.
- Division of roles: Person A holds and adjusts the individual modules while Person B performs the fastening.
- Assembly: Use a flat, large surface as a workspace to work without obstruction. For larger modules, an additional helper for transport on the construction site is also recommended.
- Tools: Use a cordless drill with a low torque setting, and keep a Phillips screwdriver available for delicate fine work.
- Inspection: After completing each step, carefully check the fit and alignment and correct if necessary before attaching further parts.

If unsure during assembly, take your time to thoroughly follow the instructions rather than rushing. Mistakes in PLATSA kits can accumulate and ultimately make the entire cabinet unstable.

I fully agree with this.

If anyone has specific questions, I’m happy to explain more details.

I admit, I often find the usual routines for furniture assembly quite boring. Why not try a different approach?

My tip: Instead of meticulously following each screw step by step, you might consider pre-assembling individual modules and then putting them together at the end. This isn’t necessarily the recommended way from IKEA, but with modular systems like PLATSA, it could make the process more flexible.

Also, it annoys me that IKEA doesn’t offer the option to prepare custom drill holes or reinforcements. Therefore, I would suggest adding small angle brackets at critical points (especially at the corners) from your local hardware store.

I know this isn’t everyone’s preference and goes a bit against IKEA’s philosophy, but if you want the unit to last in the long run, a bit of extra effort can’t hurt.

Exactly! I would even go one step further and say it’s better to build PLATSA units a bit over-engineered for stability, even if that means a bit more effort.
