Hello,

I have a strip foundation that was raised to level out the slope, see picture.
There is no basement, only a ground slab.
Now my question is: do I need to waterproof the foundation with bitumen or a similar material, or can I simply backfill?

Is the gray part concrete? Is it not insulated?

I would definitely waterproof it. Also, consider splash water. Besides, you won’t be able to access it that easily again.

Insulation is not required according to the energy calculation.
The gray material is hollow concrete blocks.
What is the best way to waterproof it?

What is the best material for sealing?

Will it be visible afterwards (UV exposure) or completely backfilled?
For areas without UV exposure, suitable one-component or two-component (cures faster) bitumen waterproofing is recommended. There are also approved bitumen-free mineral-based sealing slurries for waterproofing structures in contact with the ground. Personally, I prefer bitumen-free two-component hybrid sealants. They are easy to apply and UV-stable. When backfilling, always use a protective layer (protection mats, drainage fleece) to avoid damaging the waterproofing. According to DIN standards, the waterproofing must extend up to 30 cm (12 inches) above ground level UNDER the plaster.
Are you doing all this yourself? Then you should thoroughly research the correct sequence and compatibility of different waterproofing and plaster combinations beforehand, paying special attention to connection points such as floor-to-ceiling windows.
