Hello,
I am considering building a semi-detached house and already have a plot of land for it. Due to the location of the plot and the development plan, only a semi-detached house is possible, where the division runs along the roof ridge.
Now my question is, does anyone know if there is a fundamental reason why this wouldn’t be allowed? So far, I haven’t found a semi-detached house with this kind of division and wonder if I am missing something essential.
Maybe someone here knows more.
Best regards, nordisch

Smialbuddler13 Jul 2021 22:35I have seen semi-detached houses with parallel roof ridges before, basically like two detached single-family houses snuggled together 😉 You can also find examples online through an extensive image search. It’s unusual but kind of cool, especially with the correct ridge orientation.

I once had a gable-end semi-detached house where the entrances were on the right and left sides of the ridge at the eaves ends—but offset from each other, so the party wall still ran perpendicular to the ridge. The property was not officially divided, and the use of the two parts was front and back (as viewed from the street), not right and left.

That exists. I had one myself once.

What do you think, how unattractive your semi-detached house will be? It’s no coincidence that you don’t find such semi-detached houses. What do you think, how nice they are and not as bulky as conventional semi-detached houses?!
The roof isn’t a massive roof; each half stands visually on its own, usually with a gable view.
In our case, they were terraced houses, but the nicest and most unique in the whole community.
@nordisch
If you sketch out exactly what you mean, I’ll look for some pictures.

hanghaus200014 Jul 2021 08:30Hello @ypg, I know what you mean and I quite like it too. But the OP is asking about something like this: "only a semi-detached house is possible, where the division is along the roof ridge."
