Good morning,

I am currently planning the shower enclosures for my two bathrooms. The bathroom in the attic has a ceiling height of 210cm (83 inches). I want to install a corner shower enclosure with a walk-in, floor-to-ceiling design.

What distance from the ceiling would you recommend? Can I install a shower enclosure that is 200cm (79 inches) tall, or would this cause issues with air circulation, meaning I should choose a lower height?

I look forward to hearing about your experiences! Thank you.

Exactly, you nailed it. Is there a general rule of thumb for the distance to plan between a corner shower enclosure and the ceiling? The shower base measures 91x107 cm (36x42 inches).

No. But honestly, if you don’t have any drawings or anything yet, I wouldn’t plan the shower enclosure at this point.
The drawings should be available at the time of the notarized contract. If you don’t have them yet, haven’t you purchased the property?
I think there are more important things to plan first. In the meantime, you can use a shower curtain and install the doors after moving in.

How does that fit with a newly built house?

It’s not the height of the glass shower enclosure that matters, but the possibility to ventilate. Are there any windows? Or will a closed-off room be added to this tiny space?

Tell us more about the bathroom. If the entire room only has a height of 2.10m (6 ft 11 in), this should actually be a dealbreaker for the buyer in a new build. At the latest when reselling, such a bathroom will cause serious issues.

Thank you for your feedback! Here are some details about the bathroom:

- This is an additional bathroom in the attic of our semi-detached house, which was optional. We decided to include it.
- There is a skylight for room ventilation.
- Up to the dashed line, the room height is 210cm (83 inches). Beyond that, the ceiling slopes down to about 120cm (47 inches) at the end of the skylight.

To help visualize better, I have attached a sketch of the room layout. I hope this makes the planning clearer.

Thank you all!

The shower enclosure door can be left open to dry. However, I would swing the bathroom door ajar and extend the shower area further downward on the plan. Then the enclosure door can open inward to the right side of the plan.

Here is how I understand your information.

Room floor plan above with shower and washbasin; simple furniture sketch below.

I drew a line at 1.8 meters (5 feet 11 inches). The toilet should be moved slightly to the left. Currently, there is only 1.8 meters (5 feet 11 inches) of standing height there. Otherwise, you will need the sign.

I would suggest the shower enclosure be only 1.8 meters (5 feet 11 inches) high.

The front edge of a toilet should be at a height of at least 2 meters (6 feet 7 inches). Perhaps the roof window could help with this?
