Hello everyone,

My name is Peter, and we are now entering the final phase of planning our single-family home. We have received the following kitchen layout (see attached photos). The distance between the countertop and the kitchen island is currently planned to be 1.08 m (3 ft 6 in) to keep the dining area from feeling too small.

What do you think about this? Would you increase the distance to 1.2 m (4 ft)?

Best regards,
Peter

Where are the 34 sqm (366 sq ft), does it continue to the left there?
The dining area is as shown, suboptimal.

Access to the terrace door?

Attached is the photo of our original design. We had a U-shape, but that resulted in even less continuous straight countertop space (see photo) and even less storage. A U-shape open to the window would have created very long walking distances from the main door (see photo)

Funny! The kitchen layout is almost identical in shape, room positioning, and appliance placement to ours. Our kitchen will be installed in just under three weeks. I like it (apart from the choice of cabinet fronts and the wooden breakfast bar). 😎

I would just suggest considering how you design the cabinets of the island below/behind the table and whether the countertop needs to overhang the island on the front side. It looks uncomfortable to sit directly at the island if the countertop extends out next to you.

Regarding the original question: we have planned 125cm (49 inches). However, it is not in use yet, so no experience is available.
