Good morning everyone!

Our little house is standing. The construction site is now shrinking day by day, which gives us time for the "annoying" tasks. For example: the necessary camera inspection of our sewer pipe.

The layout is quite simple: from the house (5 connections) to the front, then a bend to the left, through a manhole chamber, and on to the distributor in the street. Between the manhole chamber and the street, an offset joint was detected. It is about 40 mm (1.6 inches) in size and, according to the inspecting company, could cause problems later on. They suggested that we ask the civil engineer to repair the pipe while the pavement has not yet been installed. "Better safe than sorry." However, they did not want to give a definitive assessment.

Therefore, my question for further opinions: How critical is such an offset? Is it more of a visual issue, or do we need to dig up and repair the spot to avoid future blockages? Of course, we don’t want to overreact and would prefer to leave everything as it is (but we are also open to necessary measures).

The pipeline report and drainage plan are available. For now, I’m only sharing the photo of the critical spot.

Thanks for your opinions!

Good luck,
Björn

If there is a defect, it should be fixed.

You might only find out 6 months after the paving is done and you’re comfortably settled in the new house, before everything has to be dug up again. Or the buyer of your house in 27 years might notice it.

If the recommendation comes from someone who doesn’t profit from it, I’m happy to follow it. However, I can’t assess professionally whether it is really necessary.
