Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

Fresendelf20 Apr 2015 11:52Hello everyone,
The frustrating issue of dishwasher fronts has brought me to this forum. Here is our situation:
- Existing and newly purchased dishwasher for this kitchen: Bosch SMV65N40EU (if I had known about the problem with the fronts earlier, I probably would have chosen a different model – but exchanging it is now difficult because it has already been unpacked and fitted)
- Installation is planned for a continuous kitchen run with consistently divided drawer fronts (two 40cm (16 inch) high drawers each; 60 and 80 cm (24 and 31 inch) wide) in Ringhult high gloss white
With the Bosch unit, it is also a problem that it cannot support an 80cm (31 inch) high front if it is braced at the countertop. So now I have to consider alternatives.
Here is what I have in mind so far:
- Purchase of a single-piece front sized 60 by 70 cm (24 by 28 inch) from the Faktum range (we currently have a kitchen with Faktum cabinets in our rental apartment); advantage: installation should be straightforward, durability very high thanks to direct mounting on the dishwasher; disadvantage: the continuous look of the kitchen run is broken by the missing drawer division, and the height is short by 10 cm (4 inch) at the bottom, which is another visual drawback
- Installation using Behjälplig; however, this is no longer available in the range. Are there any manufacturers offering a similar fastening system?
- Installation of the 80cm (31 inch) front using the "Stefan method," meaning lowering the dishwasher and having the front overlap at the top, including bracing using wooden slats and an internal front panel between the countertop and dishwasher. I still need to measure if this would actually work… I will check again later when I’m on site.
From the thread, I gathered that IKEA is not very helpful with this problem during consultations – do you think it is worth calling the Bosch hotline?
As much as I have appreciated the extra 10 cm (4 inch) of storage space in the Metod kitchens so far, I am now quite annoyed by this incompatibility with dishwashers from other manufacturers!!
Here is a picture of the current situation (countertop is yet to be installed, today is the measuring appointment):

IKEA-Experte20 Apr 2015 17:53Bosch will probably just refer you to the expensive folding hinge, which does not seem quite suitable based on the measurements. Instead of leaving 10cm (5 inches) of clearance, I would prefer to use the folding solution with ERSÄTTARE.
Ask the dealer if an exchange might still be possible.

Fresendelf20 Apr 2015 20:29Thanks for the tip!
A solution came up spontaneously today: I was actually at IKEA for something else and ended up in the self-service warehouse in front of a shelf where a stack of ten BEHJÄLPLIG units was placed at eye level...
Of course, I didn’t hesitate and took one. Now I’m wondering if it really makes sense to install it, given all the problems people often seem to have with it.
For anyone else who still needs a BEHJÄLPLIG: head over to IKEA in Braunschweig! Shelf 22, bay 12.

Sektionschef21 Apr 2015 15:48I think it doesn’t hurt to buy a second auxiliary part as a backup in case something breaks. The cost of 20 euros is definitely manageable.

deluxe_132822 Apr 2015 10:54Hello everyone,
I hope you can help me. I have already read through the previous posts but unfortunately didn’t find a suitable answer for my “problem.”
We have an IKEA Faktum Abstrakt high gloss white kitchen (since around 2013). Our dishwasher was always freestanding, with a total height of about 82cm (32 inches), and the door opened normally (not downward folding). Now it’s broken, and we would like to install a Beko DIN 6834 FX30 built-in dishwasher. However, we have a problem with the front panel. Yesterday we went to the IKEA store in Eching, and the kitchen department’s service couldn’t assist us since we do not want to buy a dishwasher from IKEA. Unfortunately, I’m not very skilled technically and don’t really know how to solve this problem or how to attach the front panel. With IKEA dishwashers, the front is apparently mounted using rails that hinge downward. If I ask the manufacturer Beko whether this is even possible, which front panel could we use for the dishwasher? Would the Ringhult 60x80cm (24x31.5 inches) high gloss white front work? Can I attach the Ringhult front to any dishwasher and, if so, do I need any hinges for this?
Please don’t be upset if I lack knowledge—I hope you can help me.
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards,
Sabine

Fresendelf22 Apr 2015 11:35There is the Faktum aftermarket service: simply buy a matching front in 60x70cm (24x28 inches) and attach it directly to the fully integrated Beko appliance, without any sliding hinges and exactly as the manufacturer specifies in the assembly instructions.
It probably doesn’t look very good to combine the 70cm (28 inches) Faktum fronts with an 80cm (32 inches) Metod front.
