ᐅ Dining table 2m or 2.2m... we are unsure

Hello dear forum,

we can’t decide whether to choose the dining table measuring 2 m x 1 m (6.6 ft x 3.3 ft) or 2.20 m x 1 m (7.2 ft x 3.3 ft).

We would actually prefer if there were 3 chairs on each side and none at the head or foot of the table. However, the chairs can’t be pushed under the table because the table legs get in the way. That’s why we’re unsure if the table with the chairs will take up too much space. The chairs are 60 cm (24 inches) deep. The table is positioned so the chairs are on the west and east sides.

What do you think??

2m x 1m (6.5ft x 3.3ft) works for 6 people if one person sits at each end. Occasionally, 3 people can sit side by side along the long side, but it is not comfortable. We are therefore planning a new table of about 3m x 1m (9.8ft x 3.3ft) for the house.

With us, 2.20 m (7 ft 3 in) is very comfortable for 8 people. However, it also depends on the design of the furniture.

Oh dear, reading this makes me realize that until now, I’ve had a rather modest life without all these things.
There are two of us, and we often have visitors. A 2x1 setup is very comfortable. Having six people over regularly also works well. In the past, when we had family visiting, we had a pull-out/extension option that was actually never really used (but cost a lot). Almost everyone today builds a bar with seating options, large kids’ rooms with chairs and tables for “in case,” etc. All of that can be designed nicely.
Visitors come occasionally, but I would never restrict our daily routines for that, even though visitors are important to me. I have garden chairs, a garden table, a particleboard with a tablecloth, etc. I once had as many as 90 people in the house (120m² (1290 sq ft) with a huge terrace), and no one complained about the table being too small.

Of course, I can imagine situations where something is always missing—a pan that’s too small, a terrace that’s too short, not enough chairs, a car that’s too small, a sunshade that’s too small. But if I were to prepare in advance for all these rare cases, my house or basement would be filled uselessly 95% of the year with stuff that I seldom need.
In that case, I would also have to build a 250-300m² (2690-3230 sq ft) house, as I can also imagine realistic situations when I would need that space for only 5% of the time, plus an XXL grill in an outdoor kitchen for big parties, etc.
Maybe it’s because we decided to manage better with less (wisdom that comes with age).
I find a 3m (10 ft) or longer table absolutely stylish, or a huge sofa is great. I’m happy to sit there alone, but the room and the whole house would also have to fit this size; otherwise, it feels strange to me.
Therefore, I agree with @Alessandro about the idea of a fold-out table since it shouldn’t look like a monster in a cramped room.

As I understood the original poster, it’s not about sitting, but about arranging. Those are still two different things, especially if you don’t have the house full of guests every day.
The pieces are arranged facing each other for decoration; when needed, for example for a card game, you can rearrange them.

A similar comment was made in parallel... it must be wisdom that comes with age after all.

Does no one have an extendable one today?

In its normal state, ours is 1.6 m (5 feet 3 inches) and extended 2.6 m (8 feet 6 inches).

We have a Connubia by Calligaris Baron table with a ceramic top in anthracite.

What kind of table do you have?
