Hello forum,

I haven’t found a thread about Digitalstrom here yet, so I thought I’d start one.
If I understand correctly, the installation is quite simple and can be added (even afterward) behind any light fixture, switch, or outlet. The range of functions is supposed to be quite extensive (dimming, intelligent switching of circuits, controlling device functions, and so on).

Network diagram of a household: router, modem, lights, outlets, smartphone, computer.

According to the shop, each connector costs around 80-100 EUR (about 85-110 USD) – quite expensive for every device, in my opinion.

Is there anyone here who has already worked intensively with this system or installed it? Do you have any additional examples of functions? I’m interested, but the price is a bit of a deterrent for me.

All that extra stuff is unnecessary!

Well.
KNX is really a great system.
Anyone who didn’t include it during construction (for example, for cost reasons) might later look for ways to retrofit it.
Whether this “extra stuff” is necessary or not is up to each person to decide and also depends on personal preferences and tastes. I think most people considering such solutions aren’t just interested in things like automatically starting the coffee machine.

It’s a pity it didn’t work out. Although I haven’t studied this topic in depth yet, I’m keeping an eye out for viable alternatives.

Hello to all interested,

I haven’t been able to focus on Digitalstrom since the summer, but of course, I’m still keeping an eye on it. The system would still be a good solution if it were faster. You just have to know that with KNX, you have to buy expensive software, and the components are costly as well. So there’s no real difference between the systems in that regard. The advantage of Digitalstrom is that it does not require system software; the disadvantage is slow switching times. If they could finally improve that, they could achieve a market breakthrough. As it stands, definitely not, which is a shame because it is simple and would not overwhelm any electrician.

Digitalstrom has the power to decide whether they constantly want to introduce some fancy new functions, or whether they want to solve and fix the main problem.

If it were faster, I would immediately inform my customers about it and try to establish it in the market.
