Hello,

I want to install a solar system for domestic hot water and heating support at our house. Six flat-plate collectors are planned for the roof. Now, the problem is as follows:

Our house has a roof with a 30° pitch. However, due to roof windows and existing photovoltaic panels, there is only room for three collectors there. The other three are intended to be installed on the roof of an extension; the roof pitch there is 50°. The distance between the two rows of collectors would be about 3 meters (10 feet). Raising the collectors on the 30° main roof is not an option because it would shade the existing photovoltaic system.

How does the difference in tilt angle affect the system, and is it even possible to implement it this way? Or do all collectors need to have the same pitch? A friend told me it would be unfavorable to install collectors at different angles. He had read it somewhere but couldn’t explain why.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks in advance.

It seems like everyone here is just as clueless as I am. :-((

I would think that over again 😉

The exact opposite can also happen. 😉

AHA – now those are some real answers 😕

What was expected? Detailed planning services for free?
Solar thermal systems, like any heat pump or heating system, need to be precisely planned and sized; otherwise, the investment will probably fail (money pit). It might be possible to generate a few kWh, but economically, this is certainly not viable for a single-family home!
If there is still available space, it would probably make more sense to expand the photovoltaic system.

A solar system for heating support is uneconomical if you cannot operate the underfloor heating with low temperature.
Anything related to heating support and radiators is uneconomical.
Therefore, it only makes sense to use solar for domestic hot water.
