ᐅ Difference Between Main Water Meter and Apartment Water Meter

Hello,

We have read the meters for 2015. There are 2 residential units, and we handle our own utility cost accounting. There is a municipal water meter located in the utility room. In each of the two apartments, we installed separate meters (hot/cold) from Deltamess. These are located in the bathroom.

In 2014, there was a difference of about 10 cubic meters (cbm) compared to the municipal water meter. At that time, the explanation was that the meters were installed later and water was used by the contractors during the construction phase (which I found acceptable).

Currently, for 2015, there is a new difference of 14 cbm (so a total of 24 cbm over 2 years) compared to the main meter.

Is it possible that the Deltamess meters and the municipal water meter measure differently? The total consumption was 245 cbm in 2015. From what I know about the rental apartment, there were meters in the kitchen; the new house does not have meters in the kitchen. Could it be that this consumption is not being recorded?

Thank you and best wishes for the new year.

Yes, of course you are... but the meter must match the size of the house. If one that is too large is installed, it will register more than the actual consumption.

Here, the water meter from the utility company registers a higher consumption than the meters inside the apartments. I assume the plumbing company knows what they are doing.

No one will be able to give you helpful answers if you don’t even know whether the sub-meters actually register all the consumers in your own house...

I found something. However, I will also check with the installation company. They often work in the neighborhood.

Your water softener uses a significant amount of water during regeneration. Since this occurs before the sub-meters, this volume is not recorded there.

Hello,

This won’t work like this.
First, you need an overview or a circuit diagram to know which appliances are connected where and which meter they are running on.

Try shutting off the two apartment water meters and check where water is still running.
These consumers, including the water softener system, are then only recorded by the utility provider.

That makes sense because these amounts can’t be allocated to individual apartment users.
