ᐅ Did you have RC2 windows installed?

Hello,

we are currently looking into the windows for our planned house. The police recommend installing RC2-rated windows for security, but these seem to be quite expensive. Have you installed such windows, and what additional costs should one expect for a window or patio door? For example, if only the patio door is made with RC2 security, will the glass panes look different compared to the other windows? How did you handle this?

Best regards
Sabine

That doesn’t answer the question; laminated safety glass (VSG) can also be VSG 6!

With that additional cost, it’s probably not RC2, so you should definitely clarify that again.

The offer includes RC2 standard and is therefore binding. Laminated safety glass (VSG) is also mentioned.
Honestly, I don’t really care about the rest. I’m not making a big deal about the windows.

Extra charge for RC2 is 53€ net per sash.

I would like to see the certificate here once the work is completed.

Ask again in a year. And only assuming we also decide on RC2.

We decided against it.

Accessing the upper floor only via a slope with a 42° incline.
The ground floor faces the main street with street lighting; there is a small embankment and a wall over 1 meter (3.3 feet) high at the front and side. Additionally, there is access to an ATM that is heavily frequented, especially in the dark.
Moreover, we live in a safe area with very few break-ins so far.

I’ll join in here.

Do you have to worry that a window might be sold as RC2 when it actually isn’t if there’s no such “certificate”?

The company we are considering, and from whom we have received a quote, is recommended by the police and has the police-required training and certifications.

Or is this what the certificate refers to?

...you can simply buy RC2-rated products to get a defined level of security, or you can purchase something based on RC2 standards, which might offer anything from adequate to no real protection.

Genuine RC2 products are more expensive because their manufacturing and installation are more complex, and the documentation requires additional effort.

Depending on the supplier, the glass panes may need to be glued into the frames or sashes; this often means that in case of glass breakage, the entire frame or sash must be replaced.

If the structural prerequisites are also met, the desired certification label can be obtained.

RC2 requires:

P4A glazing = laminated safety glass (VSG) 8mm (approximately 0.3 inches) thick with four PVB interlayers of 0.38mm (0.015 inches) each
Additional locking mechanisms according to approval
Lockable handle with drill protection
Glazing bead security or glued glazing
Installation according to manufacturer specifications in sufficiently load-bearing masonry

For doors, multiple locking points and hinge-side protection are added, possibly a core pull-resistant escutcheon or alternatively a round escutcheon.
