Hello forum. Once everything is finished on our side, I would like to install decking in the attic. For this, I am considering using OSB boards or tongue and groove boards. Currently, there are diagonal beams lying on the collar beams. I thought these would be removed before the roof covering was installed, which has now been completed, and they only serve as temporary support while the roof is still open.

I am attaching a picture, as I cannot access the attic right now to take any others.

Rohbau eines Hauses mit Holz-Dachkonstruktion, Gerüst und gelben YTONG-Blöcken.

How can I install the attic decking now, since these diagonal beams rest on the collar beams and there is battens attached on top of them that are “in the way”?

Thanks for any constructive advice.

First of all, use tongue-and-groove boards, not OSB. Don’t seal the insulation completely. Let it breathe a bit with the boards.
Well, and you probably have to work around those things. Saw? Karsten

I have read that I shouldn’t lay tongue-and-groove boards or OSB directly on the insulation, right?
With the battens, there would be a 5cm (2 inch) air gap.

I only know this: We are having our entire floor surface covered. During the preliminary discussion, the question came up: tongue and groove boards or OSB. The builder said no OSB, as it is too airtight. Now they are installing boards. They are already working on it. Karsten

I would like to install the OSB boards, if we use them, only up to the intermediate purlins. The space behind them will remain open in our case.
