Hello,

we are about to start building our house in the Hannover area (Wedemark) and I am looking for information regarding utility connections. Our plot still needs full development, as there was an old barn here before.

  • Wastewater discharge application:
    • Approved so far. From the street to the transfer chamber on our property it is about 5 meters (16 feet) at ground level, and according to the municipality this alone costs around €15,000. The order for this is assigned by the municipality, and as far as I understand, I cannot directly contact civil engineering contractors to compare quotes myself. I am interested in how this process worked for you.
    • From the transfer chamber mentioned above, the line continues about 30 meters (98 feet) along the driveway to our house. Halfway along the driveway, the wastewater line branches off to the neighboring plot. Another family member is building there, and we want to avoid having to build a separate transfer chamber for that property. Essentially, our transfer chamber serves both plots, saving us another €15,000. Has anyone had experience with this or is there any reason this wouldn’t be allowed?
    • Internal connection – from the transfer chamber to the house:
      • This is about 30 meters (98 feet) for us, and I am wondering if I can install the wastewater pipe with a 1-2% slope myself and have it then inspected and approved by the municipality. I would rather not hire a civil engineering company for this! Did you dig yourselves or have it done? ;-)
  • Drinking water connection:
    • I would also like to know how this worked for you. I have a quote from the North Hannover Water Association for €1,700, which only includes activation and connection line. To avoid digging another trench, I’m wondering if the drinking water pipe can be installed alongside the wastewater pipe… or above it?
  • General questions about the utility trench:
    • There is a line for wastewater, drinking water, internet, and electricity, right? Or am I forgetting something? Can all these lines be installed in one trench? Wastewater with slope at the bottom… a layer of sand above that… and then the drinking water pipe without slope, with electricity/internet lines beside it?

I look forward to your expertise.

Best regards,
B.

Internal connections – from the handover shaft to the house:

For us, everything was done by one company through the local municipality (district in Lower Saxony) that specializes only in this type of work (civil engineering, pipeline construction).
The prices (water, electricity, etc.) are flat rates and include everything. Maybe it’s the same in your area? (Lower Saxony)
