Hello everyone,

For the past three years, we have been renovating a settlement house from 1937, much of it as a DIY project. Now we’ve reached the topic of the ceiling, and things are getting complicated (again).

To put it bluntly: my husband wants to install the ceiling only after the furniture is in place so that there won’t be any lamp cables running awkwardly from the fixtures to the ceiling’s electrical connection. Of course, that’s not really possible. We do have a general idea of where things will be, but given the current state of construction and without having purchased the furniture yet, the exact positioning simply can’t be fixed.

To move forward, I—or rather, we—are looking for a flexible solution that would allow us to adapt the electrical setup and hanging lamps if, for example, the table is later positioned lengthwise instead of widthwise.

Is there such a flexible ceiling system? If yes, what keywords should I use to search for it? I’ve already looked online but haven’t had much luck so far. Does anyone in the forum have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any input :-)

I am used to treating suspended ceilings as "full-surface cable channels" and don’t see a need for a ready-made system product here. Visually, disabled and "blind" ceiling spotlights cannot be distinguished from each other. Since they are also inexpensive, I would simply be generous with the quantity and leave it to the SPS to decide which ones should be turned on and when.
