Hello everyone, I am currently planning a new kitchen layout using Ikea Metod modules and want to focus strongly on ergonomic aspects as well as space-saving installation. My question is: What is the best way to design a Metod kitchen ergonomically, so that working height, storage space, and freedom of movement are optimally coordinated? Are there any proven installation tips or clever tricks to make efficient use of the available space without compromising on comfort and functionality? I would appreciate examples, recommendations, or personal experiences from you that are specifically tailored to Metod kitchen units.
For the ideal working height, the following rule of thumb is recommended: elbow height minus 10-15 cm (4-6 inches). This ensures a comfortable posture when working on the countertop. To measure, simply stand upright, let your arms hang loosely, and determine your elbow height. This method is practical and is also recommended in kitchen planning guidelines.
Regarding the upper cabinets: it is better to choose narrower and taller models, possibly with glass doors or open shelves in between to make the space feel more open. Indirect lighting under the cabinets also creates an airy impression and increases usability.

Corner solutions are generally recommended to make the most of the storage space. With Ikea Metod, this works very well through special corner cabinets and pull-outs. This way, you avoid dead corners. Tall cabinets with internal pull-outs also save space and allow for better organization.
For space-saving installation, it helps to tailor the kitchen unit as precisely as possible to the room dimensions. Narrow modules with a width of 20cm (8 inches), which are often overlooked, can be used for this purpose. Combined with pull-out cabinets, this allows you to fill small gaps while still providing enough storage space.

Do you also know practical examples of how to use tall wall cabinets efficiently without overwhelming the kitchen atmosphere? One method is to choose wall cabinets in light colors with a smooth front to make the space appear larger. Incorporating glass fronts or open shelves alternated with cabinets adds structure and prevents a heavy feeling. Alternatively, a top cover panel with indirect lighting can be installed – this visually opens up the space while being functional. When installing, the upper cabinets should have a depth between 45 and 60 cm (18 and 24 inches) at most to maintain free movement above the countertop.
