Hello,

we will be covering most of our house (about 250 m² (2700 sq ft)) with design/vinyl flooring.
We talked to two professionals and, of course, received two different opinions:
One clearly recommends a floating installation with a click system.
The other strongly favors fully gluing it down.

Neither of them could really explain convincingly why “their” method is better.

So the question is: what would you recommend?

Thanks and best regards

It depends on the type of ground and the heating method used.

We will use adhesive bonding, as it makes repairs easier. Cut out the damaged section, glue in a new piece, and it’s done. We also want to avoid any seams where water could seep in if a water bottle leaks, for example.

I would definitely not glue vinyl flooring over underfloor heating! That causes a lot of trouble... Vinyl flooring expands and contracts much more than wood, and if you add sunlight exposure in the summer, a wavy floor is almost guaranteed!

Glueing has the advantage that sound insulation is often better. In theory, it is also easier to replace, but in practice, very few people manage to do this properly.
Thermal expansion is an important factor. With underfloor heating at high flow temperatures or direct sunlight exposure, vinyl flooring can sometimes develop waves. Therefore, the vinyl must be suitable for glueing, otherwise defects are inevitable.

Glueing is also more time-consuming and therefore more expensive.

Flooring on underfloor heating should be glued down. How else would glued flooring be able to expand significantly?
