Hello everyone,

after a renovation, we have a room with an exposed concrete ceiling where I would like to at least install a ceiling light. Chasing into the concrete ceiling is out of the question, and applying a thick plaster layer to cover a chase seems too labor-intensive. The classic option of suspending a ceiling with drywall panels would be possible, but also quite involved just for one light. I have concerns about mold when using polystyrene or extruded polystyrene boards, since the room has two exterior walls and living space above. Apart from wooden panels, is there another solution I might be missing, other than using a surface-mounted cable conduit?

Thanks and regards,

Electric wiring from the room above running down through the ceiling.

I would simply use a very slim cable duct.

Take a look at pictures from old Italian houses. There are manufacturers of switches and cables where three individually fabric-covered conductors are intricately braided into beautiful cables. Porcelain holders, which are screwed into the wall or ceiling, secure them. The idea: If you are installing visible wiring, make it a feature.
