Hello

We are purchasing an Okal prefab house from 1974 and I have a few questions. I have found quite a bit of information online, but I’m still unsure about some things.

1. We want to build interior walls, but we don’t know which types of blocks are really good. It is important for us that cabinets can be securely attached to the walls without having to drill large holes because the material is too soft, like in our current apartment. The blocks should also offer good sound insulation.

Regarding thermal insulation, this leads to question 2.
We are unsure whether to add exterior walls or to replace the existing wooden house insulation with modern products. Regardless of whether we choose to add walls or upgrade the insulation, we would appreciate opinions and recommendations based on experience (which materials are good or less suitable), preferably with explanations about the advantages.

3. We are also interested in your general opinion about exterior insulation systems since we recently saw a report about algae growing on these systems over time, causing discoloration of the facade in some areas.

We understand that these systems work in principle, but there are so many products available that we are having trouble keeping track and want to avoid buying inferior materials.

We would be grateful for ideas, experiences, and alternatives for our renovation.

Please do not discuss the topic of prefab houses versus traditional masonry here; only information related to the questions is requested so the thread stays clear.

Thank you very much for your efforts.
