Hello dear community,

I have a problem with my white plastic garden furniture. I leave it outside all year round, so naturally, a lot of dirt builds up. Unfortunately, I can’t get them clean anymore. Even though I cleaned them thoroughly, the surfaces are covered with dark spots. They seem to be embedded in the material itself. What is this, and how can I get rid of it?

Plastic surfaces are degraded and become porous due to UV light exposure, allowing dirt to penetrate the plastic surface.
These dark stains can have many causes: lichens, insect droppings, bird droppings (including residues from dark berries).
I believe you will no longer be able to remove these stains.

Dear Garden Enthusiast,

I was able to remove dark stains using a simple eraser. Maybe it will work for you too?

Best regards!

Yes, I agree. I had the same problem. I then got some synthetic rattan furniture, which I find easier to maintain. Otherwise, my only advice for next time is to store the furniture well to protect it from sunlight exposure 🙂

Best regards,

Polyrattan is a term for a synthetic wicker, but it has nothing to do with natural rattan. We have oiled wooden furniture, but we also protect it from the weather with suitable covers, just as Marlen recommended.
Stained plastic furniture can no longer be properly cleaned.
