Hello everyone,

Three years ago, we bought a house built in 1969. One corner of the basement is causing us some concern due to paint peeling and discoloration. So far, we had enough other things to deal with, so about 2.5 years ago we marked the affected spots in red to keep monitoring them. We carefully make sure to ventilate the basement regularly. Directly above the spots, there are gas and water pipes entering the house.

However, we would now like to address the issue, as we are expecting children in the future. I hope someone can identify the problem based on the photos. Two years ago, the exterior of the house was re-plastered. At that time, I asked the plasterer to take a quick look at the area. He did not seem particularly concerned.

As non-experts, we cannot say for sure whether the issue is salt crystals or mold. Before plastering, we excavated the right wall (photo 2174) and applied bitumen paint again, installed a dimpled membrane, and filled in gravel. Unfortunately, at the wall with the damp spots, we could only dig down about 80 cm (31.5 inches) because of gas and water connections. At the same time, a downpipe from the gutter runs down the corner of the house and, for some reason, is concreted into the ground in that area.

The rest of the wall shows no changes.
