Hello everyone
I want to install new vinyl flooring on our staircase.
A contractor said he would pre-fabricate the steps and then install them. He mentioned using a V-groove router bit to cut a matching groove into the click vinyl.
Has anyone done this or had it done before? I wasn’t familiar with this method

Best regards

I don’t have any experience with this, but Treppe99 does.

However! Using thin material especially on the loaded edge?

@hanghaus2023: The material should basically remain the same thickness, not thinner. Milling should not go all the way through to the wear layer. During my online research, I also came across the following:

By the way: Can vinyl coverings with HDF (as shown with wineo 400) also be glued without issues? Some exclude gluing but I can’t understand the reasons why.

You asked about a routed groove like that. How can the material maintain the same thickness then?

Why don’t you ask your staircase builder?

Of course, the material becomes thinner at the milled groove. However, the support is still maintained due to folding or bending.
This was the idea of a stair builder. I just wanted to generally ask if this is a common practice...

I already answered that in post #2. The company does this professionally with vinyl flooring.
