This is a new build, and there are several cracks appearing in various locations.

Here are my questions for you:

  • What is causing this?
  • Will these cracks continue to grow wider or larger?
  • How can this be prevented or permanently concealed?

Thank you in advance.

A bit little information, isn’t it?

What kind of walls are these, and what is that material stuck to the wall?

If I got one euro for every centimeter (inch) of crack, I could completely renovate my entire house.

Sorry, I am a complete layperson and unfortunately cannot provide any further information, except that the house was completed in 2017. It is a rental apartment (first occupancy) that I have leased.

Then send these pictures to the property owner.

After all, it is their problem and not primarily yours.

Is it a stone wall? Concrete wall? Wooden wall? Plaster? Wallpaper? Felt? Paint?

As I mentioned before, unfortunately, I am not familiar with this topic, and I am quite frustrated because I would really like to provide you with more information.

I assume this refers to plaster.

Why are you stressing over issues that, if anything, concern your landlord?

Send them the photos and wait for their response.

What I can tell you (as a layperson):

Cracks in new construction are common, especially if it’s just plaster (without wallpaper). Whether and when it becomes a concern, however, is something the landlord needs to assess, not you.
