Dear all,
We are planning to build a house with a small granny flat (only on the ground floor), preferably in a simple country house style, possibly with divided light windows. Our plot is 1200sqm (13,000 sqft) at the edge of a forest. We have worked a bit on the floor plan. We would like to have a gable end with a captain’s gable on the right side towards the back and extend the right side by about 3-4m (10-13 ft) to create a large kitchen space. The living room is rather small because we tend to spend most of our time at the kitchen table.
Today we visited a prefab house company to get an idea of how the process works.
Our preference is for divided light windows and a wooden front door. The supplier could not offer the first option, not even in a modern version with a one-third/two-thirds division in aluminum windows or applied grids. However, we do not want to give this up. I wonder if other companies will be the same? Does anyone have a recommendation for a builder who offers this and allows for custom designs?
Solid construction is also welcome!

And I’m not just worried, I’m certain: if you approach this backward (by making your main criterion whether the house manufacturer includes windows that match your personal style in the features list), you’ll end up with a very limited selection.

Because with timber frame panelized prefab houses, the problem is that the windows need to be installed before the wall panels are transported and assembled. Reliable house manufacturers know this and will insist that the windows be delivered directly to the factory. Choosing a window supplier they don’t usually work with will likely disrupt the entire logistics, assuming they even agree to it. With masonry panelized walls, this issue is practically negligible, and in site-built masonry houses, the windows are installed as separate components into the walls anyway.
How would you proceed with windows when building a prefab house?

For masonry panel systems, I would handle it the same way as for masonry cavity wall builders; for wood frame panel systems, I would prioritize the windows lower.
