Hello dear forum,
The house contract has been signed, the basement contract is upcoming, and now it’s about excavating the slope for the basement.
The excavation volume will be around 210 m³ (275 cubic yards) and does not need to be disposed of – soil class 3.
What costs should I expect for excavation, backfilling, and spreading the remaining soil on the property?
(I only find prices online that include disposal of the excavation and are several years old.)
Has anyone recently dealt with the same issue?
Thank you very much

I just checked our quote for the earthworks again. It's from July, so it's up to date.
Excavation: €10.00 per cubic meter (approximately $10.75 per cubic yard)
Delivery, installation, and compaction of gravel: €10.00 per cubic meter (approximately $10.75 per cubic yard)
Delivery, installation, and compaction of crushed stone: €30.00 per cubic meter (approximately $32.25 per cubic yard)
All prices are net plus VAT. No charges for arrival or departure since the subcontractor is already working on several sites in the new development area. Fair prices (I come from construction...)
3 euros / m³ (approximately $3.20 per cubic yard) for excavation and storage... steep, someone needs the work.
We also pay that but for volumes between 5,000 and 20,000 m³ (approximately 6,500 to 26,000 yd³)...

Construbo6 Aug 2022 19:23We paid approximately €14.50 per cubic meter (about $16.00 per cubic yard) for excavation and stockpiling (converted to cubic meters), although we had soil class 6. Another earthworks contractor wanted around €30 per cubic meter (about $33.00 per cubic yard), and a third even €50 per cubic meter (about $55.00 per cubic yard)...

All prices are net plus VAT. Transportation to and from the site is not charged because the civil engineer is already working on multiple sites in the new development area. Excavation is too expensive.
Gravel and crushed stone seem incredibly cheap to me; I almost pay that price starting from the quarry—if it’s FSS (Fine Sand and Stone). Maybe you confused tons with m³ (cubic meters)?

Scrapping it - too expensive.
Gravel and crushed stone seem incredibly cheap to me, I almost pay from the pit - as long as it’s FSS - possibly confused ton with m3? Oops, right 🙂 Of course in tons, not cubic meters. Although the gravel quarries here aren’t far away, so the price should still be reasonable.
Why is excavating too expensive? The soil doesn’t need to be disposed of either, as the earthworks contractor spreads it on the noise barrier mound. No extra costs.
