ᐅ Cost savings or how much credit is given when reducing the floor plan size

Hello everyone,

Has anyone ever reduced the dimensions of a standard house from one of the usual providers?

How much credit per square meter did you receive?

Since we don’t really like any of the standard floor plans, we would have to pay for additional design services anyway, that’s clear. However, we would need to shorten most of the offered houses by about 1–2 meters (3–6 feet), meaning a reduction of roughly 8 to 16 square meters (86 to 172 square feet).

(Whatever age-appropriate means here…)
I would always recommend having something planned individually. Especially on a slope, the access points from the property and garden usually define the layout, which a standalone bungalow often does not take into account. The basement level could also be designed individually, since there could be a convenient garden access there.
By “age-appropriate” we mean that everything necessary is on one level and everything is accessible by stairlift or wheelchair if needed (for example, guest rooms could be located in the basement).

That’s what I thought. What about the washing machine, technical equipment, and appliances that are used rarely? Keep in mind: you need to make many trips every day to get, use, or operate those items.

So we only need 70 sqm (750 sq ft) on the ground floor.
We would reduce a Danhaus bungalow by about 7 sqm (75 sq ft), and one from EBK by about 20 sqm (215 sq ft).

If I extend the idea from post #9, a reduction of 7 sqm (75 sq ft) could already result in a "negative saving" ;-) However, structural considerations probably won’t be a big issue anymore (a 70 sqm (750 sq ft) bungalow will have a simple rectangular floor plan without any frills; with a truss roof, it’s a straightforward matter).
