We want to renovate the basement for the kids. Since the floor is very cold there, we plan to install underfloor heating. What costs should we expect for two rooms, each about 18 m² (193.8 ft²)? Is it possible to do some of the work yourself?

Underfloor heating is truly a nice feature. I especially don't want to miss it in the basement. We also had it installed later on. If I remember correctly, the cost was around 2,100 CHF.

We are currently in the planning stage and want to install underfloor heating in two rooms. However, we will first get quotes from contractors. Then we will see if we can do the installation ourselves.

My husband is skilled with DIY work. The first quote is 60 Swiss francs per sqm (square meter). This also includes the floor construction, so the total comes to about 1,500 CHF.

That is certainly a good price. However, ask for the material list beforehand, so you can see what materials are included.

Good luck with the work.

So, we also had underfloor heating installed afterwards. It definitely has its advantages. However, we hired a company to do the entire installation for us. With a DIY approach, there can be complications, and we wanted to avoid that.

Hi Nicole1981,

It really depends on who installs it. My husband is a tradesman and can do it, which saves us a lot of money. A company has higher overhead costs, and as the customer, you end up paying for that.

However, if no one in your family can do it, then your only option is to hire a company.

The main thing is that it stays nice and warm.
