Hello everyone,
I hope you can help me a bit.
We could move into my partner’s childhood home, but we would need more space than is currently available.
The house is one story with a basement, ground floor, first floor, and an attic that is not finished.
We would like to move into the first floor but want to add an extension.
That means we want to build a solid garage at the ground floor level and put an extension above it. The side length of the house is about 8 meters (26 feet).
On the first floor, this would give us effectively one large room or two smaller ones.
Now my question is: is something like this even possible? And what would it roughly cost?
I know it’s difficult to estimate costs like this, but an approximate figure would be helpful.
I’m particularly interested in whether it would cost more or less than 50,000 euros.
No roof extension would be made.
It would be great if someone could assist me.
Best regards

The architect will likely be able to recommend a structural engineer. After that, you can request material quotes based on the plans. It will probably cost more than 50,000 €.
The architect wouldn’t cost us much, a family friend.
And you have never spoken to him.
Shell construction roughly 400–600 €/m² (about $430–$650 per sq yd), finished no less than 1200 €/m² (about $1300 per sq yd), without your own labor, minimum standard.
Service phase 1. Basic evaluation
Service phase 2. Preliminary design with cost estimate
Service phase 3. Design development and cost calculation
And where does the insurance come from?
At the latest then, the architect must bill according to HOAI.
Best regards
