Hello,

we are currently in the process of hiring a company for our flooring work. We would like to install click-lock/design vinyl flooring, which costs 55 EUR/m2 (55 EUR per square meter) including materials according to the first quote. Then there is a second quote stating that the floor must be leveled first, costing 25 EUR/m2 (25 EUR per square meter) as an additional charge.

What do you think about this? I find it to be much higher than what I found in online searches. The problem is that we have already signed the first contract and cannot cancel the order without incurring additional costs.

I wouldn’t be so sure about the cancellability. Did he see the floor before the offer was made?

Hello emer,

Actually, yes. They were already inside the house before the first offer was made. It was briefly mentioned that the floor might need to be skim-coated, but that was not included in the first offer. If the price is fair, we have no doubt about continuing.

I can’t say what a fair price is. Nor can I say whether you can get out of the contract.

However, if he already mentions it, why not include it in writing – at least as an option?

A tip for the next time you request quotes: I always ask for the costs of different execution options and the labor time, in case something unexpected comes up. This often helps to avoid the risk of “utopian prices” and/or disputes. Plus, I can still change my mind five minutes before ordering materials and still know what it will cost.

Hello emer,

thank you for the great tip! I will definitely keep that in mind next time...

This is our first experience, and we have learned a lot from it. When I think about it, it could have been worse. Please keep your fingers crossed that we can move in at least on time...
