LilikHello to all home builders!
Since our house did not include base plastering, we have now requested a quote from a plasterer. He measured about 20m² (215 sq ft) and is asking for 1300 €. We are not sure if this price is reasonable or if it could be cheaper. We also asked another plasterer, but he is taking his time and hasn’t responded yet. So, we still don’t have a comparison and would like to ask here in the forum if this price is fair. What do you think?
Thanks in advance

Lilik

Hello,
we finally have the second quote as well. What can I say... I am shocked. Actually, the second plasterer is located in our town, just 550m (600 yards) from the construction site, but his quote blew me away—an impressive 2700€ . The first plasterer has to travel almost 40km (25 miles) to get here and offers it for half the price. Most importantly, the first measured an area of about 20m² (215 sq ft), while the second comes up with 28m² (300 sq ft)!
I awarded the contract to the first plasterer; he is working with our general contractor and also plastered the exterior of our house. So, I am really disappointed with the plasterer here in town.

You can shave your own head to save money, or you could hire Udo Walz for it. The result is almost the same...
We have often experienced that small jobs were refused simply because very high prices were quoted. Perhaps the local contractor pays their workers well, while another does not. You will never know.
What I would do, however, is calculate with 28 square meters with the first provider. Unless you have signed or accepted a fixed-price offer. Another common trick is to underestimate the estimate and then invoice more. The offer might say something like “billing based on on-site measurement” or “based on actual quantity,” etc. Re-measuring can help... Adding up rectangles is not that difficult.
