Hello everyone,
Has anyone had experience with installing a central air conditioning system?
I am planning to install a central air conditioning system for 5 rooms in a new build: 4 units on the upper floor (one per room – 72 m² (775 sq ft)) and one on the ground floor (living room with an open-plan kitchen – also 72 m² (775 sq ft)). The construction company estimated the costs at 30,000 to 35,000 EUR.
My question is whether this amount is reasonable. The construction company I am working with is not the cheapest, but 35,000 EUR still sounds quite expensive.

The company calculations are based on 35 by 18 degrees at full sunlight, which results in high performance and expensive equipment.
If you use the 35 by 18 degree settings while on vacation, it will be costly.
If you use the lowest setting, the system can be smaller and more affordable.

I also find the price excessively high, no matter what heat load is assumed. (For better assessment, a detailed list of the devices would be helpful, but it seems that is not available yet.) My advice: Contact one of the nationwide HVAC specialists, and then you will have a clearer idea of the general cost range. In my case, their quote was higher than the local installer’s offer (for the same equipment), but in your situation, it would probably amount to no more than half of the stated costs.
Aside from that, an air conditioning system should of course be planned, as mentioned above, including possible shading.

Apart from that, when planning an air conditioning system, as mentioned above, possible shading should be taken into account. Is your system centralized as well, or multisplit?
In my case, it’s a centralized system where the construction company has to install the air ducts during the building phase.
I will ask the construction company to provide a cost estimate – then I can see how much the ductwork and how much the equipment will cost and share it here.
So far, I’ve been told that it’s not the equipment that is expensive, but the installation work for the air ducts and condensate drainage.

If you are using the system at 35°C (95°F) at 18°C (64°F) during vacation time, it will get costly.
If you use it at the lowest setting,
the system can be smaller and more affordable. That’s also a good point to ask the company about. Although I’m afraid that if things continue like this, +45°C (113°F) in the shade won’t sound so unusual for Germany anymore.

I have a quote for 4 rooms over 2 floors, multi-split system, but the indoor units are discreetly hidden in the walls, which makes it a bit more expensive. Total price around 16,000 EUR.Where and how many outdoor units do you have?
Was the installation done during construction or added later?
The installation will take place this week. We have been living in the house for 2 years.
Local climate control system, multi-split,
1 outdoor unit 6 kW,
1 indoor unit 2.5 kW (bedroom),
1 indoor unit 3.5 kW (living area 55 m² (590 sq ft)),
all-in price with installation just under 6,000 euros.
