We are planning an extension to an existing building and intend to partially basement this extension. The footprint of the extension is 45 m² (484 ft²), with about 35 m² (377 ft²) planned to be basements. Excavation would not be directly against the existing building’s exterior wall, but approximately 2 m (6.5 ft) away from it. We hope this will simplify the underpinning and keep costs manageable.
We plan a simple utility basement for storage and a workshop. A waterproof concrete box structure (white tank method), fully underground, unheated, uninsulated, with access from both inside the building and outside, and one basement window at the exterior basement entrance. No interior plastering required, no water connection needed, only electrical wiring. A screed floor will be sufficient. It doesn’t need to be finished nicely, just functional. What approximate costs should we expect (excluding earthworks)? Unfortunately, we have no idea.

Sure, we will do exactly that. However, like most homeowners, we have an overall budget that we prefer not to exceed. Ours is 900,000. When it comes to construction costs, there is a significant difference between spending around 40,000 or 80,000 on a basement. Since it is also difficult to estimate the costs of many other expensive items in advance, it is really hard to get a rough idea of the total final amount. That’s why I am very interested in the experiences of other basement builders.

A small basement room of maybe 12 sqm (house is from 1900). There is no staircase, just a hatch in the floor from the current kitchen with a ladder. We would not use this old basement at all. With a building year like that, the water connection and the water meter are often located in the basement, so be careful not to fill it in and then have to look for them later.ruby27 schrieb:

We plan to extend and build a basement in the rear area, about 8 m (26 feet) away from the existing basement. We don’t have a soil survey. So, I initially assumed the worst (and most expensive) and planned for a waterproof concrete shell (white tank). Maybe we won’t need it. It’s not intended to be a living basement. Where is the basement located in relation to the rest of the house, and how similar is it to the basement in the other semi-detached half?
