Good evening,
we have received an offer, but it is difficult for us to assess whether the price is reasonable:
Vaillant Aerotherm Split unit tower, including installation, approximately €19,000 (about $20,700) additional costs after deducting credit for the gas condensing boiler and solar thermal system (both will no longer be needed).
--> Is this price okay?
The delivery time according to the offer is 6-8 months, which will probably extend the construction period.
On the internet, I found the air source heat pump available for about €10,000 (about $10,900) with a delivery time of 20-40 days.

This is an offer from a general contractor; we are very satisfied with them but are inexperienced and this is a lot of money... so I wanted to ask here once more. Thank you very much!!

Hello 🙂

What would the alternative have cost, or what is the credit?

I don’t have our offer on hand right now, but I recall that the expensive part wasn’t the material, but the installation.

Whether they really receive the air source heat pump in advance when ordering online (if it’s not in stock) is unclear. I am currently experiencing with other things that the stated delivery times don’t necessarily match reality.

For us, there is also a 6-month delivery time through the heating contractor.

The problem might be that no one will install the heat pump if it hasn’t been purchased through them.
We had a similar issue with the water softener, which sat unused for 5 months.
Even the local trade association stated they understood why no one would install the system if it wasn’t bought from the local company but rather cheaper online.

My strong advice is to clarify with the local company beforehand whether you are allowed to provide the heat pump yourself!

The price seems reasonable for today’s standards, even if you might find it cheaper elsewhere. Ask if there’s any chance to get the Arotherm Plus, as that one would be a bit better...

I don’t know the cost of this heat pump, but the installation is far less complex compared to installing solar thermal panels on the roof and running gas lines to the hot water recycling system. So, it’s actually a bit outrageous, but there’s no other way. You probably don’t want to have gas inside the house anyway.

Thank you for your feedback. As of today, the building technician advises us against ordering the air-source heat pump due to significant delivery issues. The situation is such that installation of the heat pump in 2023 (!!) cannot be guaranteed (we actually plan to move into the house in spring 2023), which would likely cause a considerable delay in the construction schedule. This is too risky for us. Therefore, we will stick with gas heating combined with solar thermal and will probably ask here again in about five years about the conditions for retrofitting the gas system. Crazy world. We would have preferred to do it right away.
