Hello everyone,

I need to have about 20 meters of corner stones installed.
Approximately 8 meters with a height of 2.50m (8 ft 2 in), then stepped down.
I was quite surprised at how expensive the material including foundation and other costs are.

Here are two examples: (Height x Width)
2.50m x 1m corner stones – €595 net including installation of the stone
2.00m x 1m corner stones – €476 net including installation of the stone, delivery, concrete base, and earthworks, 12cm (5 inches) thick corner stones.

My builder asked his building materials supplier and received the following material prices which he would pass on to me directly:
2.50m x 1m corner stones – €379 net (corner stone only)
2.00m x 1m corner stones – €219 net (corner stone only)

Is it normal to add €200-250 per linear meter for foundation and labor?
What has been your experience?

Additionally, I would like to know how you estimate the following prices:
- Drainage pipe made of KG pipe DN150, delivered and installed in a sand bed including fittings: €62.50 per linear meter
- Drainage pipe made of KG pipe DN125, delivered and installed in a sand bed including fittings: €51.00 per linear meter
- Excavation of trench for drainage pipe, soil stored beside the trench and replaced after installation: €42.50 per linear meter

I was able to negotiate a 5% discount on all the above prices.

I would appreciate your assessment of these prices.
I plan to visit again this evening to either place the order or negotiate the prices further.

Best regards,
Tito

Hello titoz

Fair prices. But the civil contractors also need to make a living. They have significant operating costs as well.
A small example: I had to build a foundation approximately 20 meters long, 80 cm (31 inches) deep, 30 cm (12 inches) wide, partially exposed concrete.
The quote (including excavation waste disposal and backfilling with recycled crushed limestone) was 12,500 euros. I ended up doing it myself. A mini excavator costs about 200 euros for 8 hours, and a 7.5 m³ (265 cubic feet) container costs 180 euros. It took me a weekend and cost me 3,000 euros.
Of course, you need to have the skills to do it.

Hello,

this here:

- Excavate trench for drainage pipe, temporarily store soil beside trench and backfill: 42.50 €/meter

seems quite expensive to me:

For my ground heat exchanger made of KG 2000 DN 200 pipe, I paid about 50 € (net) per meter. That included delivery and installation of the pipe in the excavation during the backfilling work. Including proper slope preparation and sand encasement!
The pipe alone costs 15-20 euros, leaving 30-35 € for labor.
If these are standard KG pipes for you, they don’t cost more than 5 euros per meter, leaving a good 45-55 € for labor. That’s very generous.
And why is there a 20% price difference between the DN150 and DN125 pipes? The work is the same and the material does not cost much more?

Excavation and backfilling cost me about 25 € per meter, but only 1.7 m (about 5.5 ft) deep (ground heat exchanger for ventilation).

So, your offer is quite expensive. The question is whether that benefits you. Do you have alternatives?

Best regards,
Andreas

.

I pay €2400 for filling and compaction. Originally, that was 360 m³ of old basement. The demolition was done by the same company.
Now, the roughly 240 m³ still to be done comes at no extra cost, so I get a total of 600 m³ of well-compacted material, including compaction, for €2400.
That means €4/m³ including delivery, compaction, etc. If I hadn't combined demolition and earthworks, it would probably cost around €20–30/m³.

Then it's fair... You get almost double the amount when setting the L-blocks for free, which previously cost you €2400.

Whether I would hire another company is something to carefully consider. The current one did the demolition and is familiar with your site. Even in Rhineland-Palatinate, schedules are fully booked. Is it worth saving €1000 but then waiting a few weeks for a company... hmm
