we are considering installing cork flooring throughout our bedrooms and private spaces (i.e., office/workroom/reading corner/ironing and sewing room, or simply the “Don’t annoy me if my boss already does!” room). Alternatively, possibly hardwood flooring… This raises the question: how durable is it? How long does cork flooring typically last in residential use, and when do the usual walking paths start to show wear? Usage will mostly be barefoot or in socks. What is recommended to protect the floor from office chair stress (wheels or gliders)?
Subfloor: underfloor heating is installed, but since these rooms are kept somewhat cooler and the building will be well insulated (plus a centralized mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery), the heating will likely not run very often.
Regards,
I.

Ikea mat is not approved for use with underfloor heating with cork (this is stated on our Ikea product). Our office chair leaves noticeable marks on the cork… Cork is not sensitive, especially when it has been sealed. It is rather durable because it cushions impacts slightly and absorbs shocks – BUT sharp objects will leave marks, similar to parquet flooring…
