I am currently finalizing my renovation project.
As you can see in the pictures, there are now several areas in the old plaster where cables have been newly installed, old cables removed, or where the plaster has simply fallen off the wall.
In all these spots, the old lime plaster (very sandy) was evened out with MEP-L. So now I have mixed surfaces of painted lime plaster and MEP-L.

Previous discussions with contractors about the next steps all went in different directions.
One wanted to re-plaster everything twice using mesh reinforcement, another only with Rotband surface filler, another wanted to completely replace the plaster – and each considered the others’ methods completely wrong.
Since none of the plasterers, painters, or drywallers (or whatever they call themselves) are available before autumn anyway, I decided to try it myself. I have basic experience applying plaster, can achieve smooth surfaces, and am not very slow. But I am completely unsure what the correct professional method would be.
My first attempts were with Akurit SK light, since it is reinforced and according to opinions you could avoid using mesh. However, I am wondering if such a “plaster,” which is also suitable for base areas, is really the right choice for interior rooms, and whether there really won’t be any cracks at places like cable chases or where MEP-L meets lime plaster without mesh reinforcement.
So my question is: What does the collective knowledge say?
Best regards and many thanks
Joachim
