Hello,
I want to make a copper chimney cap and have it installed on our roof ridge chimney.
Our roofer says this is not possible because of our zinc gutters.
However, the copper does not have any electrical contact with the zinc.
Or is it possible that the minimal copper runoff over the years is enough to corrode the gutters?
What do the experts say about this?
Thank you very much and best regards.

Since you haven’t received a reply yet and no expert in this forum is known to me regarding this matter, I’ll give a brief tip.
If you search for the terms zinc and copper, you will find in another construction forum (for houses with timber framing in the masonry) an explanation of why copper should not be installed before zinc. This would support the statement of your roofer.

That is correct. Copper "consumes" the less noble zinc, even without direct contact. This also happens, for example, with water pipes. The particles accumulate in the water or rain and irreversibly damage the less noble material.

For those who prefer a scientific approach: see electronegativity.
I wouldn’t do it, especially since the copper price is at least 3.5€/kg (1.59$/lb). That will surely attract some thieves.
Stainless steel is also easier to weld if that should ever be necessary.

Use anthra-zinc – we have just installed it and it looks great. From a distance, it also resembles weathered copper again.
