ᐅ Conversion from Gas Boiler to Heat Pump

Hello,

I have a well-insulated KFW40 house from 2014 with underfloor heating and 170m² (1830 ft²) using a Weishaupt gas boiler WTC 15 (heating + hot water).

The gas boiler has two heating circuits. One for the house and the other for the garage. The garage is connected via a district heating pipeline (about 8m (26 ft) from the house). The garage should only be kept frost-free.

My annual gas consumption (heating + hot water) was about 9700 kWh.

I believe my house is well suited for a heat pump. Unfortunately, I wasn’t that knowledgeable back then.

Now my questions.

1. Which type of heat pump would you recommend (ground source or air source)?

2. Where can I install the heat pump? A) Inside the house, where the gas boiler is now, or B) in the garage? Unfortunately, the heat pump could not produce hot water in the garage because there is only a cold water line to the garage. Or are there any solutions? I would prefer the garage otherwise.

I hope you can help.

Thank you.

Controlled by a switching valve operated by the heat pump.
Having underfloor heating in the garage is a complete efficiency killer for the heat pump.
How well insulated is the garage?

The garage has a 24cm (9.5 inch) Poroton T14 wall. Until now, frost protection was handled by a second heating circuit connected to the gas boiler. The garage heating circuit only turned on a few times during winter. In principle, I should be able to keep everything except the gas boiler, right? Can every air-water heat pump be connected to two heating circuits?

To respond to this, I lack an overview of the devices and their corresponding controls. Based on intuition, I would say yes, but practically, I still advise against operating it that way.

If you are concerned about the ecological aspect, have an energy consultant, installer, or a similar professional come to assess your situation.

If it is about economics, I would advise against it.

Getting a heat pump right now is a difficult issue. As a manufacturer, we are currently behind with over 7,000 orders.

What would be your recommendation given my situation?

If so, then this is my opinion
How can I keep several rooms (110m² (1184 sq ft)) frost-free using a split air conditioning system?
Why can’t I use the existing setup (existing radiators and the district heating pipe)?
To prevent freezing, wouldn’t a flow temperature of 35°C (95°F) for the radiators in the garage be sufficient?

Does anyone have experience with the Panasonic Geisha air-to-water heat pump? It is relatively affordable. How is the hot water preparation implemented? Are there square-shaped hot water tanks? The round ones don’t look very elegant.
