ᐅ Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery – You Can Hear Every Word from Another Room – Is This Normal?

Hello everyone,
We had the final inspection of our house two weeks ago. Now we have noticed that through the central ventilation system in the guest bathroom and utility room, every word spoken in the dining/kitchen/living area can be heard very clearly, as if you were sitting right next to each other. With the bathroom door open, the sound naturally carries up to the children’s bedrooms upstairs. On the upper floor, the sound transmission through the controlled mechanical ventilation system is significantly less.
Can I still report this as a defect after the final inspection?
Thank you very much and best regards!

Even with the newly installed sound dampers, you can still hear conversations from the main living area in the guest bathroom. It’s slightly quieter, but honestly, it’s probably not a good idea to gossip at my place when someone is in the toilet...
That’s just so annoying!!! The plumber tried to convince me this is normal and that there are never any complaints.

I can’t even tell if we have sound dampers. We don’t seem to hear anything except the suction noise in the rooms.
How about placing Wi-Fi speakers like Sonos or Bose in the guest bathroom playing soft chill music? At least that way you can prevent people from overhearing.

No, this is not the right approach.

Additional telephone line sound attenuators need to be installed, or different ones like these here:

Cut-open insulation pipe with ETS attenuator components and seal

Alternatively, as a last resort, telephone line sound attenuators must be placed between the rooms; these are usually flat and look like this:

Metal ventilation ducts and a rectangular exhaust duct in the ceiling

By the way, we also installed the wiring with spiral-seam ducts (but parallel), and there is no noise at all.

The issue is not with the spiral seam duct but with the type of connection used. In the industry, silencers are an absolute standard and are generally installed, for example, after every fan and between every room connection.

I never said that the issue was with the spiral duct; in fact, I said the exact opposite.

With Dodo, it looks like they have it connected in series, whereas we have a parallel setup. Both use spiral ducts. Here, there is no noise.

So... well, you can figure out the rest.

That was already understood that way; I just wanted to confirm it once more.

@Dodo86 Is there any update on this topic? I’m quite curious to know if you were able to fully resolve the issue.
