ᐅ Controlled residential ventilation supply air in the living area near the sofa

Hello dear forum members,
I have been an active reader of this forum for some time now, but I have reached a point where I need to ask a question. We are currently finalizing the construction plans for our semi-detached house, with construction scheduled to start in July. The HVAC contractor has recommended positions for the supply and exhaust vents of the mechanical ventilation system. Everything is clear so far, except for the location of the fresh air supply in the living area (marked in red in the attached picture). According to the HVAC contractor, the position so close to the sofa is acceptable and there should be no drafts, but we have some concerns. However, we can’t really think of a better location. If placed further to the left, the airflow would pass over the sofa area on its way to the kitchen exhaust; if placed further to the right, the left side of the living room would be without fresh air.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance!
Best regards, kasse-tk

Thank you for your responses! Where would you place the fresh air intake?

We also have the fresh air intake 1m (3 feet) next to the sofa, and I don’t notice it there.
In my rooms, however, I do notice it at the desk.
So it always depends. If possible, it’s better to move it a bit further away.

We'll leave it as indicated. One meter (or even two) to the left or right makes absolutely no difference.

It’s similar for us as well, just basically at the front edge of the sofa seat. I’ve never really noticed anything about it, which doesn’t necessarily mean much, but my partner doesn’t mind it either, and they are quite sensitive.

Then it must be true after all. I feel nothing except hunger and thirst.
No, I can relate. We built a new house in 2020 and have a fan at a similar distance from the sofa, and another right beside the dining table. At the dining table, I can notice it if I’m sitting directly underneath it. But I don’t find it unpleasant; I have to raise my hand and move closer to really feel the air blowing out. When I’m sitting there, only a slight breeze reaches me. And I hardly ever notice the one near the sofa.

Based on the different experiences shared here, I would guess that both the ventilation system itself and the individual person influence how it is perceived.

All right, I think we’ll leave the position as it is. Normally, we’re not too sensitive to drafts anyway – it should work out fine. Thanks very much for your feedback!
