ᐅ Control the climate using underfloor heating or through the ventilation system?

Hello everyone,

We are considering installing an air conditioning system to cool the house during the hot summer temperatures (which now usually last for a solid 2 to 3 weeks per year).

Has anyone installed an air conditioning system and can share their experience? Do you cool via the underfloor heating system or through the ventilation system?

Best regards,

I definitely don’t want to be without my air conditioning in the summer... those few days can be really unpleasant... because once the heat is inside, it’s not easy to get it out again, as the house is built to retain heat...

However, we do not use it for heating...

Did you install a central unit?

What is the cost of a central unit and how is it structured, specifically the ductwork? Are these compatible with the mechanical ventilation with heat recovery?

The price varies greatly depending on your requirements... you can buy a central unit for a few thousand or several tens of thousands, depending on what is desired.

The cheaper units usually just cool with a high energy consumption... the more expensive ones can be adapted more flexibly to the user and the house and are more efficient.

It is built almost like a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery but with larger ducts, since larger volumes of air need to be moved.

You cannot use a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery for this, because it is not designed for the amounts of condensate and air volumes that occur with active cooling.

No, I only have a split system as well, because I was foolish enough during construction to think: "the house won’t get warm in summer, there is enough insulation everywhere."

Now, after the first summer, when I could barely sleep or not at all during the few weeks of heat, a split system was installed in the bedroom.

Well, I deliberately chose split units – a central system would have been too expensive and not worth the effort. Plus, you end up with one more maintenance area...

I’ve already paid attention to summer heat protection under the roof (above-rafter insulation with wood fiber boards and mineral wool), but I’m afraid that won’t be effective in the long run.

No... after a certain duration of exposure, it becomes a sauna... no matter what materials you have installed... and as I said, once the heat is inside... it stays in even more because of these measures...

I think at some point I will install a ceiling unit in our home...
